Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 10, 2026
1. What this covers
This Privacy Policy explains what data SpeakLaw collects when you use our website and mobile app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at speaklaw.ph@gmail.com.
2. Data we collect
Account data: your name, email address, and profile photo — from Google when you sign in with Google, or your email address alone when you sign in with a one-time code.
Study activity: cases you view, digests you read, collections you save, and your practice sessions — including the answers you submit for AI grading and the resulting scores and feedback.
Voice recordings: if you answer a practice question by voice, the audio is sent for transcription and then discarded — we keep the resulting text, not the audio file.
Device and usage data: app version, device type, crash reports, and product-analytics events (e.g. which screens you open) collected automatically as you use the Service.
3. How we use your data
To run the Service: authenticate you, sync your progress across devices, generate AI grading and feedback, and remember what you’ve saved or read.
To improve SpeakLaw: understand which features are used, fix bugs, and — using de-identified, aggregated data only — improve digest quality and grading accuracy.
To communicate with you: send sign-in codes, respond to support requests, and, if you opt in, send product updates.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your practice answers to train third-party AI models beyond what’s needed to generate your grading in the moment.
4. Who we share it with
We share data only with service providers who help us run SpeakLaw, under contracts that limit them to that purpose:
• Google — for Google Sign-In authentication. • Resend — to deliver sign-in email codes. • OpenAI and Anthropic — to grade practice answers, transcribe voice recordings, and generate case digests. Your submitted text/audio is sent to these providers solely to produce that result. • PostHog — product analytics (which features are used, in aggregate). • Sentry — crash and error reporting, to help us fix bugs. • Neon (PostgreSQL hosting) — where your account and study data is stored.
We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of SpeakLaw, our users, or the public.
5. International data transfers
SpeakLaw is operated from outside the Philippines, and the service providers listed in Section 4 are located in other countries (including the United States and the European Union). This means your data is transferred to, and stored and processed in, countries other than your own, which may have different data-protection laws than where you live.
Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on contractual and technical safeguards with our providers (such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent measures) intended to protect your data to a standard consistent with this Policy.
6. Data retention
We keep your account and study data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (available anytime in Account settings), we permanently delete your profile, collections, and practice history within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain records by law (e.g. payment records for tax purposes).
7. Your choices and rights
You can view and update your profile information, and delete your account entirely, from Account settings in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or export your personal data, or to object to certain processing — contact us to exercise these.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures (encrypted connections, hashed session tokens, access controls on our database) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe and will notify you if we become aware of a breach affecting your account.
9. Children's privacy
SpeakLaw is intended for law students aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as SpeakLaw evolves. If a change is material, we’ll let you know (e.g. by email or an in-app notice) before it takes effect.
